Experience with higher end wireless speakers

So here's my situation...
Built ins on either side of the fireplace in the living room. We aren't going to have a TV in the room, just speakers. There is no way to connect speakers on either side. So I have decided to do a stereo pair of wireless speakers. As this will be where I listen 90% of the time I'm willing to spend a decent chunk.
I feel like I'll probably end up with 2 play 5's, but does anyone here have experience with speakers a step up like the Bluesound Pulse 2 or the Paradigm PW800? I've also considered the Naim Muso, but I feel like I'd get much better stereo imaging with 2 speakers. I came very close to doing the KEF LS50 wireless, but you have to connect them via an ethernet cord.
I appreciate any input!

Or what about two play 5's vs a 2.1 system with play 1s or 3s and the Sonos sub? I've listened to the Sonos speakers in the store, but it's always hard to really gauge there imo

I really like Sonos for the ease of use, especially for my wife. She can just open the app and play whatever. I wasn't aware you could stereo pair 5's, but i have a stereo pair of 1's that sound great.

Two play 5's and a sub freaking jam. It's what made me a SONOS believer.

Everything I read keeps coming back to Sonos. My plan would be to hook it up to my chromecast audio so I can stream my 24/196 collection through plex.
I'm just trying to convince myself that dropping $1,700 on the 2.1 system is worth it vs. Some other higher end brands.

I have a single Sonos Play 5 and it's awesome. Two Play 5s paired in stereo is incredible--have not heard that setup +sub but I can only imagine it's phenomenal. Play 5s have great bass, but depending on what you listen to, you may have the desire to add a sub to get to those lower frequencies.
I'm planning to add another Play 5 very soon.

Sonos doesn't have built in microphones.

They've had mice for at least this generation, they just haven't been enabled for Siri or Alexa yet.
