Excel Question - Link/Display Image in Multiple Cells

Cannot find anything online, but I may not be looking in the right place(s).
I have about twenty images that I want to display several hundred places in an in an Excel spreadsheet. One image might be used twice, and another might be used a hundred times. Obviously, I could just put the photos directly on the spreadsheet hundreds of times, but I don't want to do that for several reasons. First, I don't want to waste space and make the file that huge, wasting disk space and RAM. Second, I want to be able to change the image once, and have it update everywhere that it is referenced (much like Excel recalculates the entire Sheet if change a value in your data set.
As an example, imagine that I reference a picture of Rover 18 times. If I change to a new picture of Rover in the one place (dataset), I want that new picture to display automatically in all 18 places.
I don't really care whether I put the individual image files in the same folder as the spreadsheet, a subfolder, or even on the web somewhere ... I am hoping I can hyperlink to the location and automatically show the file at that hyperlink location. I would RATHER not put them in the workbook (a different page than the display page?), but I can/will do it that way if necessary.
Any ideas?
