what happens in 5 years when something better comes out, but companies can't change because of this law saying usb C is the standard?

The Directive will make them create and adopt a Universal Standard, which will act out the same way as the HDMI.

Representative from the industry as a whole will come together to design the next USB iteration, that model will then be rolled out much like how HDMI 2.1 has been handled.
