This is probably not appropriate for this board, but I have to cover my bases.
I am in need of a new garage door opener. I know the one I have is .05HP and is chain driven. I have 2 remotes and one indoor button I can push for lights and to open the door.
So I start looking online, there are types with different HP, belt driven, etc.
My question is mainly about the belt driven types. Mine is old, and barely works anymore. It's loud as hell when being used. I have read that the belt driven types are quieter.
Is it going to be a headache to change from chain to belt types, or is it just different connection points to hook to the door?
Are chain types or belt types better?
Some have apps to control with your phone. Do you have to pay a subscription to use the feature?
If i got a larger HP opener, say 1 or 1.5, would that be too much and kill my door?
any advice is appreciated.
I have also considered hiring a poor person to just hang out at my house and manually open and close the door for me. Broke OT'rs you can apply here.

Belt driven is a little quieter but mostly it requires less maintenance as opposed to having to lube the chain periodically. The power of the opener depends on the size/weight of the door. If it is a single door for a 2 bay garage, i'd go with the 3/4 hp. If that door is solid core or steel (or just heavier in general), I would go higher. If its for a single bay garage, 1/2 hp is fine. Also, if you have frequent power outages, consider a battery backed unit.

see if you can find this at Lowes. this is a great value.
The lowes app shows at $134 if it can be found.
Its the one I currently use. Probably hard to find in store anymore though

I just put in 3 Liftmaster 8550W's and they are pretty sweet as far as garage door openers go.
I would recommend a belt drive since it'll be super quiet and you shouldn't have issues going from chain to belt. These have DC battery backup and wifi connectivity. There's no subscription needed for the app......just set up the opener through the app and you're ready to go.

Upvote to this. I have a larger one since my garage door requires it. App works great.

I have a Chamberlain MyQ Belt Driven and it's awesome. Super quiet with wifi controls and notifications. 1hp with 18ft garage door.
