Downloading SD cards without a computer

I need to figure out a fool proof way to download footage from my SD cards to my external hard drive using my IPad.

check amazon for sd card reader adapter? one with sd card and usb that connects to your ipad depending on which version/port your ipad has. i've never tried this to know if you can copy straight from card to hard drive, or if you'll have to copy ipad then hard drive. will be curious to know if that works

The only foolproof way is to have two SD cards.

I don’t know about iPad, but you can buy portable hard drives that have sd card readers built into them to download or you can buy a hd docking station that has an sd card reader to do the same thing. This is what photographers usually use in the field.

I’ve researched on YouTube and I’m trying to figure it out.
I have a file hub for my iMac and I tried to use it with the File Explorer app and nothing happened.
So, I either need a different app or file hub or both.
I wanted to actually see the progress on my iPad to make sure my footage is being downloaded but at this point I’m leaning towards doing what this guy does.

7 days of capturing video with 3 go pro cameras. That’s a lot of SD cards.
