Great replies so far.
Sounds like either choice will be fine and to switch anyway after year 2. Anything has got to be better than Comcast's customer service.

Had DTV and Dish for many years. My pick - DISH,the Hopper with Sling is simply unequaled. It is ultimately configurable & is constantly upgraded with new features. The Genie is not nearly as advanced.

All these people saying dish has better equipment have no clue what they are talking about.
What happened is they swapped from old arse shite from direct TV and upgraded to dish with the hopper.
Direct TV has equipment that is as
good or better than anything out there.
It really is up to you on preference and who will give the
better deal at the time of your install.
I know that dish DOES NOT have the same amount of HD channels as direct and do not let anyone tell you different

Correct me if I'm wrong but has not DISH equipment won the "Best Of Show" award for at least the last 3 years at the CES?

DTV, not very close either.

Dude, seriously? I like the humor if that's where you're going with that but come on.

Here is a list of channels provided for the package cost.
Again direct TV wins this easily as you get much more for the money

I have Comcast internet and home phone service. They recently raised their rates. The individual components went up a total of $3 but the "package" price went up $20.
So much for discounted bundles!
I had a Plan B in mind before I called them. They rescinded the price increase and gave me a discount on top of that. They said to call back each year and ask for another discount.

DTV has nothing to compete with the Sling Box.
DISH allows for any channel to be streamed, just like you are at home.
One other thing that DISH is superior to DTV, is that you can have channels that are currently on special come off automatically before the rate is raised. Just login into their website and select remove when special is over, with DTV you always have to call to remove these channels.
Besides that they are very close. I have found the Hopper to be more responsive than the Genie, but anything was better than a Directv HR24. Those boxes and early generations were ultra slow. Shocked they still sell those things.

This is not something that most need to worry about with direct TV.
For the majority of users, direct TV offers more channels in HD and better overall home experience than dish. You saying you find hopper better than genie is totally subjective to the user. I say I prefer the genie and so on.
The truth us the hopper is limited to certain channels at certain times. The genie is not.
One can go back and forth all day about pros and cons but direct offers the average subscriber more hd tv than dish and also has NFL Sunday ticket which in itself to a sports fan is worth enough for the nod in its self

Another vote for Dish. I have 2 Hoppers, a his and a hers, and 3 Joeys. I also have the tailgater that I activate Saturday morning and deactivate on Sunday for each LSU home game. I've never had Direct, but I can say that the Dish DVR is amazing.

What? Are you talking about the auto hop feature?
Something that DirecTV doesn't offer in any capacity. Just like the sling box that DirecTV has no competing product.
The main thing is that dtv has Sunday ticket, dish only has NFL network and red zone
