Lightning struck a nearby transformer and one of my directv dishes now does not work. It is not the box, I swapped a working one out and still no satellite communication. It is an older non "swm" dish. Is this possibly an LNB issue? Perhaps it shorted out... or is it something bigger? I cannot call a direcTV repair guy for multiple reasons, I have to fix it myself, so any suggestions or knowledge would be great.

Probably is an LNB issue. I would try to order one and swap it out. If you have access to a signal meter, you can try that out.

I had the same thing happen to me with a DTV system, and had the coverage. It was definitely the LNB that was fried.

You have more than one dish?

or is one of the feeds/cable runs from a single dish is not working?

If other boxes are getting signal/picture it's not your lnb. One lnb acquires signal for all boxes and is split at the multi switch. I would suspect a bad multi switch or cable connection. Swap the cables on the multi switch and see if the problem moves to a different box. If yes it's the multi switch. If no it's probably a problem with the coax run or one of the coax compression fittings.

Yeah I have more than one dish, it's in a different building on my property. I took a box from my house, that works perfectly, and tried it… no signal or satellite communication.

I ordered another lnb and will try it.

Also could be the dish moved during the storm and is no longer aimed properly
