I explicitly told them not to touch my service since I have a D3.1 modem and wanted to keep my 300/30 but they did it anyway. Now, they can't fix it because "it's not offered anymore" (I recorded all of these calls). Even fired off an e-mail to their Senior VP Anthony Pope two weeks ago and his noted silence clearly means he couldn't be bothered to care any less. Considering going into the store during a high volume period, speaking to the "manager" who is responsible for screwing me over, and then loudly explaining in detail the various things he can go do to himself.

Well I finally went and picked up a SurfBoard SB8200 from BestBuy for $148 and made the call to upgrade the modem.
With years of bad customer service from Cox in the past I was braced for battle but the call went smooth as butter and the rep even agreed I should keep my plan for the 30Mbps upload speed.
Took less than 10 min and download is testing at 360Mbps and upload at 29.65Mbps and a ping of 6ms. No changes detected in my online account profile.
Glad to keep the old plan.

I did the same today. Except I didn’t call- I just used the online system to provision the mew modem. Seems to be working fine, although we don’t get quite the speeds we pay for.

Eatel is coming to residential in BR.
As soon as Eatel or ATT fiber is in your area, ditch cox as fast as you can.

I’m having the same issue and I need to make a decision today. Why do I need DOCSIS 3.1 unit? Why not a 3.0? The 3.0’s are much cheaper. I do want the modem/router combo though.

I feel like the quality of my WIFI signal will be better with one piece of equipment instead of having two pieces of equipment. I hardwire my tv to the equipment for streaming of netflix, Disney+, espn, etc. on my tv. So the WIFI is just used for my tablet and cell phone and printer.

It's usually just the opposite, equipment dedicated to one (or fewer) tasks performs better and lasts longer.
Typical consumer routers (without combo modem) already do routing, wifi, firewall, switching, etc. That's a lot of stress and they generate a lot of heat with no fans, so they don't tend to last very long. Modems generate a lot of heat on their own so that just adds to it.
But as long as you buy it outright instead of renting, it may work great for you and be a good value.
