Cox saying they will change my plan bc my modem doesn't support my current plan

I have been running Cox's 300 down/ 30 up plan for years. Now, all of a sudden, my modem isn't good enough for the current plan and they want to upgrade me to 500/10. The issue really is they are retiring the 300/30 plan and trying to force people off of these plans. But, if I buy a new modem that supports D3.1, I can keep my current plan.
It sounds tempting for the 500 download speeds, but will I be missing anything by dropping to the 10 mbps upload speeds?
Internet basically used for streaming services, working from home, wife's social media, TD...

They did this with me end of year last year. Speeds were worse than before they “flipped the switch” to give me faster speeds.
I returned the modem to Best Buy and told Cox to reverse everything , since they had a 30 day guarantee.
Gave me the run around. That sealed the deal for going with att fiber.
Edit
Upload : I think there is potential to see slow uploads when sending larger emails , uploading photos / videos , texting images when on wifi.
It’s not critical but I think it will be noticeable

I check every few months until fiber is available for me. As soon as it’s down my street, I’m making the switch.
Really pisses me off is I found out both of my neighbors behind me have fiber but I can only get AT&Ts 25 mbps plan

If you're working from home I would keep the 300/30. I doubt the jump from 300 to 500 would be noticeable, but the drop in upstream from 30 to 10 could be a problem if you're sharing photos/videos to social media, doing video calls, etc. 10 is plenty for one video call, and probably two or three at the same time. But if you're on a call and someone is doing other things, your video quality might suffer or skip.
You probably wouldn't notice it in everyday use, but personally I would prefer the headroom and for my cloud backups and other upstream stuff to not be cut down to 1/3rd.
500/10 is *really* lopsided, so much that I can't believe that's really their offer. I see that even their gigabit is limited to 35 up, which is just crazy.

This is what I was leaning towards, but wasn't 100%. Guess it's time to start researching modems, have until May 1st before they just switch me.

In either case I would run speed tests very regularly to make sure you're getting close to the 30 up, and jump their arse if you're not.

Moving to a new house that only has att 25. Going to get cox gigablast unlimited for the time being until fiber is put in the neighborhood.
Is gigablast fiber?
I hate Cox caps and upload speeds.

I have an extra 3.1 Surfboard....don't ask me why. $20 if you meet me to get it or $30 if you need me to ship it.

I'm anal about this because of my Plex server and NVR and surprisingly I've never had issues with the 30 up. I still check at least once a month or when there's a hiccup.

Got the same email also have the 300/30 plan. My modem isn’t even that old, maybe 2 years? Just going to let them change to 500/10 and bitch if I notice a big drop off.

This is what I am thinking is going on because I have an ARRIS SBG7580. It can support the download speeds up to 1.4GB, but they are saying because its's only a DOCSIS 3.0 it needs to be upgraded to a DOCSIS 3.1.
Funny thing is, they tell me I can also choose to rent one from them, but if I do it'll be a change to my account so I'll need to change plans anyway since the 300/30 is no longer supported.

All that still looks the same currently, hope it's still in stock once your home maintenance/improvement budget recoups.
I still can't get over how they're showing that AI 360 camera in the YouTube video which has been up for a week now, but it's not in EA and they are giving absolutely no info about it in the forum. No announcement, nothing.

quote:Yeah man there's a shortage of everything, and not just UI. Big time chip shortage, so electronics of all sorts are hard to come by. Cameras, APs, computer parts, etc. Even used cars are in short supply because people are buying them for the chips or some shite. Steel, wood, etc. Everything is hard to find and prices are wild.
is there really a shortage?
