I just got a pop-up card from COX thanking me for being such a great customer!

I've been with them forever, but the card mentioned the last year.

Any success stories for rate negotiations. Last time I called they gave me a discount of $20 on a $275 monthly bill. Chump change.

That's the best you're going to get unless you call to cancel service, and even then I'm not so sure. Asking for the retention department and telling them you might switch to AT&T fiber is a play for chump change. They actually started playing hardball several years ago.

That weakens your leverage. If you're not calling to cancel, they know they still have you, and they'll give you a token 5% discount or thereabouts to make you feel like you got something out of the call.

Comcast isn't that bad. They will give you another 2 year promotional rate. I guess that is why Cox absolutely sucks. They didn't even develop Contour. That is Comcast's X1 rebranded.

Ask to talk to the retention department. My bill was 189 and told them I can't keep paying this. They took $40 a month off, no contract.
The guy said to call back this time next year, when I asked him why can't y'all just give me this price all the time. He said they always have deal like this. Loyalty discount.

Loyalty discount.

How long you been a customer? I used to get decent discounts, too, but not in the last several years. I've been a customer over 20 years.

I've been a Cox customer for a long time and never heard of loyalty discounts. My rate just keeps going up.

They don't just offer without asking. When you first call tell them you want to cancel,. Don't fall for any other discount or other BS. You want a discount almost as good as a new customer. They will then send you to the retention department and then they ask you if you use this or that service. If you tell them I'm going to cut it all off, and are short with your answers, then it will work in your favor. If they don't offer( which has never happened to me with the loyalty department) then just tell them you need to make sure your wife is ok with canceling before they call your bluff.

Again they always have a BS offer when you first call, you have to tell them you want to talk the loyalty department. The last time I called the dumbass that I talked to first said I am the loyalty department, which I knew wasn't true, so I called the next day and the guy I got never tried to up sale anything. I told him I wanted what I had last year at the same rate. He said that shouldn't be a problem. I told him it's a shame I have to call and do this every year and he agreed, but he said there is always a discount that they can find like the one I got.

Tell them you want to cancel because you got a 50% less proposal from u-verse and they will send you to retentions. You need to tell them what kind of deal you are getting and they should put something together better for you.

Not sure what you have but with that invoice at almost $300 a month I assume its a lot.

I can't say that I don't agree with you, but the point I was making is their retention department will always give you another 2 year promotional rate to keep you as a customer because it is in their best interest to do so.

I warned them I was planning on cancelling my Cox cable and internet to get ATT internet and PS Vue and they basically said adios.

I told them ATT had 50mbps for $40, Cox wouldn't budge from the $70 for 50mbps posted online.

Couldn't be happier with ATT and PSV. Together it costs me $75 with taxes/fees included.

Hardball.

It's funny. I got better discounts back when there was no fiber in my neighborhood, or even shitty uVerse, and there was literally no game but Cox. I blame machine learning.

Actually the best thing to do might be to just bring all your equipment to a Cox store and cancel your services (preferably right before you go out of town), then just wait a few days and the awesome deals will be mailed to you.

cox has the worst customer service. We continually have problems and they only offer more expensive package. I have threatened to cancel, been an A-hole, been super nice. Doesnt matter, just continually have the worst internet ive ever had in my life. I am stuck with them where I live.
