Just moved to an apartment that has “free Spectrum WiFi” and in order to connect, you need to attempt to connect to a certain SSID, for instance, on a laptop...

- Go to wireless networks and select “apartment_resident”
- password is “apartmentresident”
- opens a website that asks for a user/pass
- once correct info is put in, a “Connect” button appears
- wait a short while (several seconds to ~1min) and you’re connected for good

Now what do I do with a wireless printer or a Nest thermostat for instance that doesn’t have the ability to enter the second authentication information?

I mean, it’s GOT to be possible somehow.

TIA

Printers will usually have manual connection settings in their menu options. Try googling something like “connect to Wi-Fi with login” and you printer brand and model.

You really need to set up a protected bridge to their wifi network (treating thier network as the DMZ). Use any machine that can be a router/firewall using a wifi interface to the public network, add your own network behind it and you should be good to go. Exposing your devices to a public network is never going to end well.

Since you have to ask about this, it can be safely assumed that you will likely need some help, find someone who can set up a simple Linux machine.. should take a total of 15 mins to build it into a decent router/firewall for you. The same could probably be done with windows, but likely not for free or at little cost.

In case anyone was wondering, I was finally able to ascertain that there is a website portal that I needed to log into and add each device’s MAC address to allow the user/password to connect the device.
