I am curious to know if there is any way that an individual record could be lost in a state licensing system.

In August I purchased a TX Hunting License in Killeen TX. I lost it but knew the record should still be there if needed. While on a hog hunt I encounter MR. Green Jeans (Game Warden for the non-OB lurkers) He asks to see my license and I explain the loss. He looks it up in the system but finds no record. Of course I get a ticket for no license.

When I made the purchase they swiped my license into the system, printed my copy, and met me at the register to pay. I left thinking all is well.

What are the odds and how could the information be lost? Any thoughts? Thanks for any help?

Did you pay with a CC? either way I would call TPW and see if they can help. You'll probably spend countless hours on multiple calls though.

TX licenses expire in august so is it possible you bought last years license instead of the current year?

Your scenario is exactly what both me and the warden suspect. Dumb of me not to verify for sure. The warden said if I could run to town and buy a current license he would look the other way. I hauled it twenty minutes to town and the machine was down. I paid cash for the license...was returning from a week in New Orleans with the family and had cash left to use. I remember buying the license with great clarity actually.
