Yep. I don't do it full time, but I've been in plenty of attics and at least 95% of low voltage wire is just strewn all over (at least in older homes). It's rare that a cable guy even runs the coax a sensible route, much less tacks it down neatly. More often than not it's just laying on top of duct work and everything else.

They’re put in during construction. They aren’t sufficient to handle DBS signals

I just used mine as a fish wire and installed coax & ethernet wall plates. Then put a splitter/boaster in my attic so I could connect my attic antenna to every TV, and I now have a direct connection to my internet so my TVs don't have to use WiFi.

Yeah it definitely doesn't hurt to leave the coax if you can, but for OTA TV I like my HDHomerun.
