Chromecast wifi network help

I'm trying to watch tv outside. I may be stupid, but this process is insane. Brought CC on a trip recently, set up on my laptop hotspot, etc. Now trying to change back to my home network.
Seems like and endless circle of "check you are on the same wifi network"... I"m not. I know I'm not.
I don't see the device in the Google Home app. CC is working but I can't seem to access it. This is insane.
I guess it was ever connected to a Wifi network in the past you are forever screwed? It's not listed on Google Home and can't be found to set up since the CC is connected to a network 500 miles away?
Would you do a factory reset? Thanks

Thanks. It's just maddening. Should have done that first. Spend a damn hour trying do what should take 30 seconds

Half the time my iphones dont pick up the chromecast option.
It make me full of rage.

once upon a time i had a chromecast on every tv in my house.
now i have a pile of chromecasts on a closet shelf. google slowly took features away until the point where there was no point.

It's like an animistic rage.
In the end I got it off the old network, not even sure how. Then couldn't find my home network. Gave up.
Few hours later did the exact thing and it set it up easily. Maddening. Never changing it again
I will say I've had this chromecast for probably 5 years. Blown through 2 rarely used FireSticks in the same time that just died
