I am thinking about switching from at&t to charter as the rate is so much cheaper 180 a month to 80. I live on the northshore and I have heard horror stories about them which makes me skeptical. Is the service good or absolute shite? I have had no issues with at&t service and I have had them for a few years now but I am tired of paying an arm and leg. My wife wont let us not have cable even though i have told her its not bad as I didnt have it when i lived in nola.

Thanks!

At least in Birmingham, they're the fastest for residential internet. For now. I dropped U-Verse a few years back and switched to Charter for internet only. Just know the $80 you're paying will jump considerably in a year or two. My internet was $40 when I started and then it jumped to $60. Now it is $65 and I'm thinking of adding cable since it would be promo rate of $40 each.

I feel like I have a natural inclination to hate whoever my current ISP is, but Charter has generally been pretty reliable for me. Have it at home and at the office.

Like the poster above me said, we had a promo rate of $40/month for the first year, then it jumped to $60. Then all of a sudden it's $65, as I guess they increased their rates across the board. But I think you're going to see that at any provider as more and more people cut the cable cord and demand more and more bandwidth. But you can always try to call and threaten to cancel.

Don't know what their bundled packages look like. We only have internet. But to answer your question, it's been a pretty good service so far.

Awesome! Thanks y'all. I'm not worried about the price after a year even if it goes up from 44 to 64 that's not too bad. I can also always switch over to at&t and get there new user promo rate. My in-laws do it every year. They switch between direct and someone else.

How the hell is your bill with AT&T $180?

I pay $70 a month locked for 1GB internet.

I just can't do a shared internet line. I have the 1GB dedicated. The spectrum In my area slows down by 50% at night

Currently paying $65 for 60/mbps on Spectrum. Time Warner was charging $115 for 50. Internet access in Ohio sucks.

Did the same thing back in early January. U-Verse bill was over $220 so I switched to Charter. Internet went from 12MB to 60MB and the service has been flawless in the short time ive had it. No complaints at all.

Cable internet blows away uverse.

The only problem with spectrum is your price will jump after a year. Time warner would always give me the new customer promo when my old promo expired. Once spectrum took over they were unwilling to do the same, so I switched to att/DIRECTV to save $40/mo

Main reason I switched, and dropping cable was just a bonus savings. The router they provide with U-Verse didn't cover my whole house, and even when it was connected, it was very slow. I had it in my living room with the internet connected to the TV via Ethernet, and even that lagged at times. Now I have Charter and a nice Wireless router and can stream stuff all the way to the backyard with no issues.
