So my son took his iPhone swimming a couple days ago and it is dead. I took the phone to a repair place and they tried to dry it out unsuccessfully. My question is has anyone bought a certified reconditioned phone from eBay, gazelle, amazon, Verizon(my carrier), etc. I just can't see spending $700 on a new phone for a 13 year old who swears he learned his lesson. The reconditioned phones are $350. How is the quality? Any problems? Any pitfalls I should be on the lookout for? TIA

Swappa.

I haven't bought a phone anywhere else in years and never had a problem.

I recently started a thread about the absurd prices of new phones (got 20 down votes from all the OT ballers) on the AT&T Next plan and I mentioned the same thing as you. No way in hell am I paying almost a $1000 (shoot, I wouldn't even pay $500) for a new cell phone....frick that! Anyways, I dabbled on Swappa a bit and it seems like that is where I will buy my next phone. If you just get the model that was 1 or 2 before the most current one, you could usually get it for about $250-300ish.
