Through a rather weird series of ebay auction winnings I now have 14 google mesh points with built in speakers arriving. This is on top of the ones already in service.

Im thinking I'm going to replace all minis in the home with mesh points, mount the mini speakers...somewhere.

But that leaves me with 8 extra points after filling the home.

I'd like to put one on each corner of the home. But mount four additional under a metal patio cover in the rear. Cover is 60x30. There should be no issue of ever seeing direct moisture. They will obviously be on 24/7.

So...similar livespan to a tv outside?

The goal out back is just smart speaker groups. With the added bonus of my wifi range should extend from 500ft from the home to 12-1500 ft. That way I can listen to podcasts while mowing without depending on cell service.

Is there anything I can do to improve their lifespan?

Given you have 14 additional incoming and it's covered, I wouldn't hesitate to give them a ride. Unless you live near saltwater, you should be good for awhile.

Not sure how hot it might get, but if you are worried about moisture you could just bag it up. Also looks classy, like it's still new.

Well guys it turns out that you can't use more than about six points without your internet completely freaking out.

I'm now trying to figure out if I could use them simply as a smart speaker and not a Wi-Fi point

If they are all connected wirelessly then yeah you have probably passed the practical limit for a normal sized house. If you hardwire some of them you can probably add more, but even freeing up some of the airwaves that way you would probably still be creating too much interference, particularly in the 2.4ghz bands. There are only 3 non-overlapping channels so 6 nodes will double up all of them and plug up the works. Unless you're working with something like 10k sqft.

A little under 5k.

I'm hoping I can just readd the points as nest speakers. Haven't had a moment to test it though
