Buying a new TV, pain in the butt.

I'm reading up on 4k/hdr/uhd tv's and I've read on here about hz and what's good and what's not good. Then I see they all have a different name for hz and they don't really tell the whole truth. Samsung for instance uses motion rate and I've read on cnet and other places that you basically have to half what they say on the box to get hz.
So, in order to get a true 120hz, you have to spend close to or over $1000? I have a samsung with a smart remote and love the remote but I "believe" I want a true 120hz tv, is there really a big difference and is it really worth the extra money for someone who just watches sports?

We have one 120 hz TV, and 3 60 hz ones, and I honestly can't tell a huge difference between them.

I have a 120 Vizio and and a 60 LG and like Spleen said above, it's really not a huge difference to the human eye. I'm sure it pasts tests and all that but I can't really tell the difference.

Thanks for the replies, I might just stick with this one. It's a good tv, just thought I might want something better if it really is better.

I have a $499 60" from 2013 it's off brand and I get compliments every time someone comes to my house. The new TVs ability > every day streaming quality.

My Panasonic plasma is 600 hz so I'm spoiled. My old Westinghouse LCD was 60 hz and you could see the slightest blur with live sports, but otherwise I could never tell a difference.

Frustrating issue for old fogies like myself. I have a cheap Sanyo Plasma that is 15 plus years old. Picture quality is incredible, but a black line has appeared on the screen.
Being an old-school Methodist Jew, I can't bring myself to replace it until it breaks. But I'm seeing prices on brand new color TVs that are making me dream of SEC football like a 12 year old staring at a Juggs magazine on the top shelf at the corner C-store.
I'll update when the TV goes on the fritz.

I have an old Sony 60" (KDS-60A3000) back-lit. I have to replace the bulb every 3 years. The picture is great. I got it new in 2008 but I think it was produced in 2006. It will just shut off and give 3 blinking red lights. I think it is just real dusty and needs to blown out. Anybody have any ideas?

After four Blue Moons the 720P on my patio looks 4K.
