Nope. If I did I certainly wouldn't buy them a tablet.

People without kids should really honestly just shut the frick up about anything and EVERYTHING that involves having kids.
Until you have one you really have no fricking clue.

I think Im the only person in this thread giving a 2 year old a tablet. And Im not buying it for him. Hell I didn't even pay a penny for it when it was mine. The OP is talking about buying a cheap tablet for a 3 year old. But apparently duck hunt didn't teach you to read.

Lol at you thinking you have a say in what your 3 year old gets once your wife gets involved.
I have a 5 year old girl, and 3 year old twins. They love to color and draw (my walls prove it). They also love my wife's iPad. Because of her iPad, they can recognize numbers (up to 13 or 14), all of the letters, and most colors. The apps replace flash cards which get lost easily.

At two years old your baby should be learning motor skills and cognitive development. They don't learn this from touching a screen.
Sure its good to teach your kid to be tech savvy at a young age but two years old is just ridiculous.

You realize that pediatric occupational therapists utilize tablets to teach just this right?

My tablet teaches my son to count, learn letters and speak. Obviously things that 2 year olds shouldn't learn right oh wise non-parent.
You probably have never even changed a diaper in your life I bet.

You don't have to have kids to realize 2 years old is too young to give a kid a tablet.

Nope. If I did I certainly wouldn't buy them a tablet.
quote:So your hangup is because it's a waste of money to buy a two year old their own cheap tablet? I don't think you've thought this through if your suggestion is to let a two year old play with the parent's expensive tablet. Also, why would you want to hover over the kid while he's playing/learning all the time? frick independence and self-sufficiency, eh? Shut up and learn something, son!
If you want to let your kid play an educational game put it on your tablet and supervise them while they play. No reason to waste your money buying a two year old their own tablet.
Your future kids are fricked.
quote:Yeah, and don't let them watch TV, either. Don't stop there, though. Don't buy them puzzles, either. I didn't have any puzzles when I was a kid. I had to play tic tac toe in the dirt with a stick, against myself. And paint? Pshh, I had to smear mud on the shed. And it looked good. I turned out fine, no kid needs anything more than I had.
Yeah it does. Its called a tablet. Don't buy your two year old a tablet.
In summary, stop acting like you know shite. A great parent can give his kids tablets and video games and whatever else, and still be a great parent and have kids that turn into great adults. And shitty parents can follow all of your "tips" and still churn out shitty kids. I hope you remember this thread years from now and realize how dumb you are right now.

quote:My son had his own tablet at like 18 months (pretty sure he got it last christmas). It didn't take him long to figure out how to drag through screens, pick out the educational game he wanted to play, and start finding animals by name/sound, and counting and shite like that. He's two and a half now and probably smarter than your dumb arse.

You don't have to have kids to realize 2 years old is too young to give a kid a tablet.
Do you think all kids are the same?

Exactly. This is what non-parents and general luddites don't seem to grasp. The industry of child learning enhancement and parental convenience/respite has been around for much longer than the ipad. It wasn't until the age of home computing that the industry exploded with learning games for the PC, then leap pads, innotabs, kid versions of mainstream tablets, countless mobile apps, etc. Likely the only reason none of us had this shite when we were kids is because it did not exist, simple as that.

Tablets are, at present, probably the absolute best tool in the world for developing motor skills and cognitive development.
Wow. You obviously don't know what the definition of a motor skill is. I'm done with this thread. Good luck parents of the Tech Board.

I just gave you a link dumb arse proving what Kork said to be correct and you to be horribly wrong.
But what would pediatric occupational therapists know about motor skillz. amiright?

I totally forgot to mention this. My 8 month old son is in physical therapy for gross motor skills, and at its most basic of functionality, a tablet has encouraged him to reach, sit unassisted, lift his head 90 degrees, and eye tracking. As he gets older, this same device will evolve with his skills and PT/OT needs. And maybe he will use it to play games and watch videos, God forbid.

Later. Good luck to you as well. You have a lot of growing up to do before you should consider procreation.

Go ahead and buy your 2 year old an ipad for "educational" reasons. I'm sure they will grow up to have an excellent attention span.

I need to grow up before I procreate because I think giving a 2 year old a tablet is a bad idea. Give me a break dude.
