Trying to build an app, but Xcode is taking forever to download. Is that the best option or is there anything better out there?
All advice is appreciated... thanks!

It's the best option but you could use Appcode

Thanks, I'll check it out. Do you have any experience with Goodbarber or Buildfire?

You also can use xamarin
I can tell pretty quickly when an app wasn't developed natively. Very aggravating when great APIs are ignored for the sake of cross compiling.

Are you questioning the development environment based on the download time?

No, just my gfs wifi. Lol. It ended up not taking that long. Played around with it a little and seems to be pretty easily navigable with the help of some YouTube videos. Other than sql I have no programming skills, so it's still a bit overwhelming.
