In the process of cutting the cord from Cox.
Currently i have a coaxial cable going into a cox digital box, then the HDMI line out to the tv and then audio cables going into a sonos amp from the cox box to be able to play the tv sound over the sonos system.
I am going to hook up an outdoor antenna into the existing coxial line through the house so I will be able to use that coxial line to get ota hd signal throughout the house.
If I cut out the cox cable box, i know i will have to get a coaxial to HMDI converter.
But, what can i get to get the audio to the sonos amp?

Hook the Sonos to the audio out on the TV
You should also be able to hook the coax to the TV without using HDMI. More than likely your TV has a TV tuner built in.

what is your go to A/V receiver these days? I know that is like how long is a piece of string, but i have 5.1 but if rather be able to upgrade later so 7.1 or better would be nice.

problem with that is the sonos amp is in a media closet and the tv is a good ways away. I could run wires i suppose, but, would be much easier if i could take care of the coaxial to HDMI and Audio split in the closet rather than at the tv.

If you go that route you will need an audio deembedder to strip the audio off the HDMI.

What about getting something like This and using it just for the converting and not using it to pause or record?

The best way to do it is run the wire from the TV to the Sonos
What TV do you have and are you using the tuner in it for the over the air channels ?

its a very strange set up, but, the cable line comes into the cable box in a media closet. from their audio lines go into the sonos amp and the HDMI out the back of the cable box goes to a hdmi splitter (one line to two) and then the two HDMI lines go 30 feet in one direction to an indoor tv and 45 in another direction to an outdoor tv. So that particular indoor tv and outdoor tv always play the same thing. The audio line allows me to play the tv sound on my outdoor speakers through the sonos amp.

Then replace the cable box with something like this
