So is there a data usage app tracker to determine how much I use a month. That way I. Can watch for a few months to determine if I even need the unlimited data.

Just log into your acct and look at usage history. No app needed.

Best thing to do is what you've already mentioned and find out how much data you average per month. You can always have them change it if you think you're going to go over or have them lower it. You should be able to keep your plan.
When I worked as an authorized retailer for Verizon and At&t, I had the option to change customers plans when they bought a new phone if they liked.
Compare the total prices in addition to how much data you use. 1GB-$25, 2GB-$40, 4GB-$70, 6GB-$80, 10GB-$100 in addition to $40 per phone and $10 or $20 for a hot spot which they can all share one data plan with the new plan. However, if you keep you existing phones or buy a new phone with the NEXT program that was designed to compete with T-mobile model, you should only pay $15 per phone line.
A family of 4 should be $160. Even if you had to add more lines to make it 4, it may be cheaper to do that.

At about 16GB this month.
why and how?
A lot of downtime at work.
Billing runs from the 22nds I think.

You won't be able to subsidize the phones with the new plans. They now throttle the unlimited plans when you reach 5 GB so they can try to aggravate you into switching to the new shitty plans.
Im not saying you are wrong, but I have not experienced this. Have stayed unlimited with no changes to my plan.
Did upgrade to unlimited text when I lost imessages.

I switched and they let me keep the unlimited data. I don't know about you but once I get over 5gb of data, my speeds definitely start to slow. I wonder if this is the same if I would be doing 10gb shared?
I have grandfathered unlimited data and they sent me a text this month saying I'm over 3GB and they already reduced my speeds, and will reduce them more and more for each GB I go over three. It's such bullshite

Yes. The ATT app is available in the App Store and Play Store. You can check your usage, review/change your plan, view your bill, etc

You are confusing the Shared plans with the crappy Next plan.
The Shared plans still allow for a subsidized upgrade every two years.

Don't know about Android, but you don't need an app to track cellular data usage on iPhone.
In settings, there is a section that tracks cellular data usage. All you have to do is remember to reset it every month when your billing cycle begins.
It will also break down data usage per app so you can cut back if you need to.
I don't keep up with mine. I'm unlimited and I've never had my hand slapped by AT&T. Not sure why not.

The fine print says differently.
The new share plans and the AT&T Next plan go hand in hand now.

Mobile Share Value Pricing: Prices include monthly plan charge and monthly access charge per device. AT&T NextSM installment charges extra. For plans 10GB or higher, customers with smartphones on 2-yr agreements prior to 2/2/14 are eligible for the $15/mo. access rate. For plans 2GB to 6GB, customers with smartphones on 2-yr agreements prior to 3/9/14 are eligible for the $25/mo. access rate. To keep discounted pricing when upgrading, buy via AT&T Next or at full price.

Well I'll be damned. I stand corrected.
That's good to know actually.

That's why I became really pissed when they started throttling my unlimited plan after 5 GB. These new plans don't save anyone a thing once you want a new phone. I wouldn't mind if phones were built to last more than 2 years. My S3 is less than 2 yrs old and I think the charging port is screwed. It takes forever to charge. There is nothing I can do about it without taking it apart.

Yeah it sounds pretty much like a wash since you're paying retail for the phone.
I guess the only upside is that you're free to "upgrade" whenever you want

i took a look at my 6 month history and noticed that i didnt go above 6GB a month. my wife didnt have unlimited data and went over her plan way to much. switched to a shared 10GB plan and save $60 a month. winner!
