AT&T Internet - wifi help

My home internet is through AT&T. I would like to upgrade my wifi router to a wifi 6 mesh system. As I understand it, my current box from AT&T is a gateway, so it serves as both my modem and my wifi router. Sorry if my lingo is wrong here, but I'm rather unsophisticated on these matters.
Through my online research it appears that there is a way to adjust the settings on my ATT gateway to make it a passthrough modem so I can hook a separate wifi router to it and have my wifi supplied through my separate router. Anyone tech savvy that confirm this is doable? If so, got any easy instructions, link to a youtube video, etc. that would walk me through how to do this? TIA

type 192.168.1.254 into a browser window. This will take you to the router settings. In there you can change all the settings you desire. You will likely need the access code too. the access code can be found on the sticker on the router itself.

It’s called “bridge mode” and is easy to do. Plenty of tutorials on how to do it. Some wifi routers will even provide basic instructions.

I never come to the tech board, and AT&T is coming to hook up fiber next Thursday. I had setup a network in my house with two routers, and all TVs hard wired with Ethernet cables. I needed this question answered and voilá, TD delivers again.
