This computer build I did last year has been nothing but problems.

First off, late last year either my motherboard went out or the motherboard fried my 9950X3D. Apparently this was a major issue with the motherboard sending too much voltage to the 9950X3D chips. I had to RMA both which took over a month to get back. Reinstall everything (which I felt it never really got back tuned to what it was before with the new hardware).

Fast forward to this weekend and now under any GPU load the screen flickers and goes dark. Uninstalled all CPU, GPU, motherboard drivers and updated. Still have issues crashing.

The only way I could get it to not crash was to underclock the GPU.

ChatGPT says RMA so I guess I am back to that again. At this point that would be RMA for every major component in this PC.

Anyone have this issue before? It was working fine until this weekend.

Below is my build.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 4.3 GHz 16-Core Processor
Lian Li Galahad II Trinity SL-INF 61.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Did you ever update the BIOS? I built an RS870 Pro RS Wifi with an Asrock 9060XT last year and had occasional (biweekly) power issues that required me to unplug the PC from the wall for 10 minutes in order to get it to boot again.

Check and double check that your gpu connectors (to card and psu) aren’t damaged and that they are both plugged all the way in. That behavior sounds like when I had a third party connector start to melt on me. Ran fine during normal load, but when I would push it, the extra electric resistance was too much to overcome and it would crash.

I did update the bios. They sent me a new motherboard when I RMA last time and it was updated. Updated again here recently to the new bios as well and same issues.

I may check the power cables though while I wait. They are seated but I never took them apart to see if anything inside looked weird.

Mine looked fine from the outside. When I disconnected them, I had melted plastic on the metal studs of my fairly new, at the time utterly irreplaceable, 3080fe. I was less than fricking amused

Checked everything and no visible issues. RMA was approved Friday so here we go again with their 3-4 week RMA process…. I guess at least I have that considering prices these days.

This build is my first time using ASRock anything, and haven't had any issues other than described. 10 year old PSU + CPU cooler, existing SSDs, HDD, and case, etc.

You could just start tracking eBay sale prices for the stuff you're about to get returned to you, and buy another brand this week to get yourself up and running. Sell the RMA'd goods when they arrive. You'll get up and running faster with a bit of a $ hit, but up and running is better than the alternative.
