Apple Watch cellular, couple of questions…

Looking at buying an Apple Watch for tracking steps and heart rate and such as well as and getting away from carrying my phone everywhere. I want to be able to listen to Spotify as well. Does the Apple Watch connect to any Bluetooth head phones or only AirPods?
I also will be wearing it while working in the yard, cutting grass and doing general dirty/dusty yard work connected to my headphones. Will it hold up?

It's basically a phone on your wrist. You can connect AirPods and listen to Spotify, make calls, and send texts. I think it's only an extra $15/mo on my AT&T plan.

Regular apple watch and apple watch ultra will connect to any bluetooth headphones and/or bluetooth HR strap, etc. It's just that if you have a 3rd party bluetooth headphones, odds are you'll have to manually pair them each time. Airpod pros are just a bit more seemless.
However, I have to do this a bit anyhow on my watch ultra as when I'm at the gym and start a playlist from my watch, the watch/phone/headphones all get wonky on who should be the streaming device. I have to go in the settings and modify all the time, no biggie.
As for holding up, the watch itself *should* hold up but depends what your doing. I cracked my old Apple Watch 6 screen doing cable chest fly's and the cable pressed the screen and cracked the hell out of it. On the apple watch ultra, it barely even glosses over it.
The Ultra is a beast but also pricey. The regular apple watch should do you just fine unless hard surfaces are involved (weights, rocks, pavement, etc)

I've had my Apple watch for a few years. I seem to break straps on a regular basis until I started using the woven NATO style bands with velcro. I also use a soft flexible bumper that seems to help protect it when bumping up against things.

I really like Apple Watch cellular for use with Airpod Pros and Spotify without a phone while running.
The only issue I have found is running long distance is mine won't hold a charge long enough to finish a marathon which is lame. Mine is an Apple Watch 6 so maybe it's battery is fading.

There are tons of Apple Watch protectors online. I just bought a 3 pack for $13. Snaps right over the top and is a screen and body cover. Protects against accidental bumping or dropping very well.

Yea, my kiddos are getting older too and I think I'll get em an apple watch before a cell phone. Dunno what the "general" rule of thumb is but my oldest is 10 now.

We got my oldest an Apple Watch around 10 to text us or FaceTime audio when they are at home without us. Don’t think I’m going phone until 15/16 when they will be driving or riding with others

I didn't realize the watch would do this now. Going to have to try it out. Can it be paired with any Bluetooth device/speaker or does it have to be headphones or Air pods?
Also I'm thinking about upgrading to the Ultra watch. Anyone with experience with those that can tell me the main differences between a normal Apple watch and the Ultra?

I have had the normal apple watch and i now have the Ultra. Spend the extra money and get the Ultra you won't be disappointed. It's a TANK/battle wagon. Can be way rougher with the Ultra and its waterproof compared to the normal apple watch.
