Just got a a Samsung 4K UHD TV. What else do I need to purchase to be able to view in 4K? They say the Masters is going to be avail be in 4K and I would love to view it. Thanks

You have Direct TV?
They are the only ones that are broadcasting it in 4k.

quote:
Per AT&T, that broadcast will be available on DirecTV’s dedicated 4K channel and showcase “all four rounds of Tournament play at Amen Corner, a common reference to the 11th, 12th and 13th holes at Augusta National and the backdrop to some of the most exciting moments in golf history.”
It should be noted that in order to watch that channel, viewers must have DirecTV’s latest Genie HD DVR box as wel as a subscription to the Ultimate or Premier channel package, not to mention a 4K television. The channel official launches in April right before The Masters.

Broadcast and cable networks won’t start to take 4K seriously until 4K TVs are in 35% to 40% of homes--and now they’re at 5% at best.

Aren't most things still broadcast in 720p? Aren't most TVs 1080i?

just like HD, you need 3 things to make 4k happen
1. 4k tv
2. 4k box or off air antenna- from either a provider like DIRECTV, etc
3. 4k programming- the masters in 4k, etc
not 1 of 3, 2 of 3, must be all 3 to be real 4k. unless you have that, you can only see 4k if you have Netflix and watch house of cards and some other stuff

Yeah I'd say most of the programming normal folks watch isn't even 1080p yet.

Most TVs are 1080p. Lots of things are broadcast in 720p and/or 1080i
Little to nothing is broadcast in 1080p.

Normal tv you watch is mostly 1080i and 720p
Only thing that's 1080p is blu Ray and on demand stuff

That masters in 4K is a huge deal in tv industry(where I work). that's going to be incredible.
My sources saying Directv will have a 4K channel up and running within weeks that will show sports from now on. MLB, NCAA game of the week, etc.

True, but until the next gen DVR's come out later this year you will need a 4K mini genie on your main TV that's hard wired to the main box, not wireless, and a new dish itself. Also, I think the 4K charge is an extra 10 bucks a month or so and they require you pay the 99.00 pro install charge. No DYI on it.

There is no $99 charge or $10/month charge
Only time they charge $99 is for a wireless genie mini
I checked with my DTV source

There was a 99.00 installation fee last month and that covers installing the new dish, 4K genie mini and wiring the mini to the DVR; can't say whether or not that fee is still in place and I believe the access fee won't come into play until there are actual 4k channels to watch. 4K viewing does require you have the Ultimate Package for now; I was told that may change when they have an actual 4k package to add to your programming.

Yep, definitely going back to DTV when I move again.

Most channels are in 1080i, with a few being 720p (ESPN and fox)
Most TVs are 1080p

It's only gonna be showing Amens corner, holes 11-13
And DirecTv can have as many 4K channels as they want but it won't matter until the actual channel networks are recording their shows in 4K as well. Just like CBS is doing with directv for those holes

I actually joined and waited so I could speak to this...My 4k tv has these things built into it..I use the Netflix, Amazon etc. internal to the tv, for 4k..Saying you need more than just the tv, is not entirely factual
