I don't mind spending the money as I love this stuff (probably not as much as CAD
) and it is my main source of entertainment.
Just trying to figure out how to get the best bang and effect for my buck.

I can guarantee you that you will get better effects with DIY and developer-driven software, but it takes effort as opposed to money.
I have ESP32 WiFi devices controlling LED strips behind my TVs. These devices are running a program called WLED. You can sync these so that other devices control the lights. So, I have Hyperion running on a Raspberry Pi which is reading the video output of my A/V receiver. The RPi sends the signals via WiFi to the ESP32.
To get other HUE bulbs to sync would require another controller software, Home Assistant (which can run on the same RPi).
Total cost for everything other than the LED strips: $40.
LED Strips: $10 to $20
Total time spent setting it up: Countless.

Yeah the time commitment would drive me insane. I want to get things installed and working so I can enjoy it.

I totally understand!!! But when it all finally works, man, what a great feeling hahaha
Plus, the sound reactive effects from WLED are fricking awesome.

Here is my setup (right side unplugged currently) This is a 55 inch with 3 on top and 1 on each side. Not currently in sync mode. Just set to show color zones.

I’ve used it with my PC. I have 11 Hue lights in my game room. It was fun initially, but it gets overwhelming fast. It has more staying power for video games, but it’s still too much.

I have one but I really want it for listening to music and use of some sort of image generating software. I haven’t fooled with it much tho, I think I’ll have to use a laptop for the image and music play
I got it when it came out and didn’t realize it only handles 10 lights...I have 14 in my entertainment center and 2 side table lamps. I can do ok with 10 and it’s ok for movies but distracting.
If I could get it to do some work when I’m playing music I’d like it more if anyone has ideas. I Stream from Spotify or pandora on a Apple TV or fire tv through my AV system.

Lightshow works pretty good. Think it just works with Spotify and iTunes. Doesn’t exactly follow the beat, but does with the energy of the music

In my research and experience, none of the commercially available options do justice to sound-reactive lighting, and they are all based on volume reactions.
WLED on the other hand is amazing and has visualizations based on frequencies. Like I posted earlier, it takes some time (and possibly some soldering), but it is light years ahead (pun intended) of the commercially available options.

Hmmm... Appreciate the honesty. Sounds more like something cool to show your friends than anything

just install huegasm on your smartphone and leave it over by the tv speakers and you'll get almost the same effect and its free.
