I've never had to do that. I have a credit card saved though. Not a debit card.

Works way faster than a chipped credit card.

I've been using Android Pay with my AMEX for about a year. Recently I added my Chase Southwest Visa card, and have run into issues at both CVS and Walgreens. EVen though the card loaded into Android Pay, upon scanning the device, the credit card machine stills prompts to insert the chipped card. Defeats the whole purpose of the contactless payment.

Yeah I tried to use it to pick up my prescription at CVS yesterday and it beeped as though it took it and the phone vibrated, but no payment happened and there was no indication that Android Pay worked, so I had to use my chip.

The only time it never worked for me was at CVS as well and the woman said their machine wasnt properly set up. So i wouldnt be shocked if your issue wasnt a hardware issue and not a software one. Probably nothing to do with android pay itself.
