I’m looking to reconfigure my home audio. I thought I’d like my setup but it’s just not user friendly. I currently have the onkyo rz630 that powers my living, gym, and master bathroom, and I have Sonos Connect Amps on my back porch And front porch and kitchen with HTDs In ceiling speakers throughout my house.

The onkyo running zones 2 and 3 has just gotten too clunky and fails a lot especially running pandora or amazon music. The Sonos works great, but the onkyo and Sonos connect just don’t talk like I was told they would. So I’m thinking about ditching the Sonos all together and going with HTDs mid level 6 channel 6 source system and hooking up like so. And letting my onkyo be dedicated to just the living room 7.2.

Sources
Kitchen Alexa (connected via Dongle over cat 6 already ran)
Gym Alexa (cat 6 like above)
Directv
Outside tv analog
Living room tv analog
Onkyo rz630

Speakers
Kitchen
Back porch
Masterbath
Gym
Front porch

Thoughts?

I have it, couldn't be happier. Only thing I wish is if it had streaming apps built in where you could control everything from the app instead of having to select source then control through whichever music service your using (pandora, spotify, etc.)

I put a sonos connect onto mine so once I turn my zones on I select sonos then control everything from there.

I only have the multi channel amp with voice assist and it is amazing. I have the tv as the main input in all six zones. I have an echo mounted on the back of each tv for each zone going to the voice assistant input. With the echos, you can create speaker groups and play the same music on any of the zones at the same time. You can control the volume in the different zones through the Alexa app. Every now and then, the speaker groups give me a problem but it is fixed by restarting the echoes.

I would recommend using shielded network cable if you are having to run lines. I had some interference issues and this would have eliminated that.
