I own a domain name that I bought through Hostgator years ago and now there is someone interested in buying it.
What exactly is the process to sell a domain name? Does Hostgator need to be involved in the transaction somehow?

You would have to transfer it to that person through whoever holds the registry for it. Sounds like hostgator in this case, ask them about process for transferring the domain name.

There are brokers. Like godaddy or sedo. I think godaddy has an auction where you can list it but it seems like you can skip that step.
