Need to buy a pair for a kid and I don't have a clue about quality and features. Any recommendations are appreciated.

That's exactly what I was thinking but the kid asked for it and I said I would look into it. I don't know anything about them other than wired is usually better than wireless

Buy him a cheap wireless set and a quality wired set. Let him discover on his own which is better.

I have a set from Sony that my BIL bought for me 2 years ago and I still love them. Not sure if they are the "Gold" or "Platinum" type, but if I was you I think the Gold would be good enough for you son.

Do any wireless headphones have "mic" capability besides PS ones?

V-Moda Crossfade wireless or Crossfade 2. Both excellent quality and work wired if desired/battery dies.

Astro A50

But I’d recommend the wired A40’s just because wired is less of a headache
