It’s eliminates the cord used for Apple car play. Price is steep so I was wondering how well it works. Thanks.

Yes, I got lucky with mine though, we discussed it in another TD thread you can search for. I bought it last year and when it got here, it wouldn't work with my truck. You were supposed to be able to update it through a SD card but mine wouldn't work. I tried to return it and they wanted me to ship it back to them at my cost to get a refund whenever they got it back with no shipping costs refunded, which was like 40-50 dollars. I was like frick that and called my credit card company to deal with it. They apparently didn't talk to my credit card company, so I got a full refund.
They have since changed to an OTA update method that works and now it works with my truck. Seems to work fine, but I am worried about how secure this device makes your phone because you pretty much grant it access to using bluetooth and their wifi system.
This is the exact same device as the Carlinkit one on Amazon and I think there is another brand of it on ebay. There is a giant thread about it on macrumors. They all update through the same site. Carlinkit makes a few different versions though, so you have to make sure you get the right one. They are not all the same. You want the factory carplay wireless option if your goal is to use a factory wired carplay connection to use wireless carplay. I'd probably go carlinkit if I had to do it over again just for Amazon's return policy. I didn't know the carlinkit was the same when I bought mine.

Not knocking Apple, but my experience is solely with Android. I tried Android's versions of this, and I assume Apple works the same way. Corded or OTA (wireless), your phone acts as a server and your headunit acts as a client. In my experience this provided less than desirable result. A laggy experience and a hot phone. Also, I want my phone to be independent of my headunit. I don't want to have a passenger and then to see my ol ladys nudes come in via text on the headunit. This might not be helpful for you, but what I ended up doing was getting an Android based headunit that I could install whatever apps I wanted to on, such as Waze, Spotify, etc, and that had it's own GPS and could control the radio input. When I want to use Waze or watch Netflix while I drive I just turn on my hotspot on my phone. Phone never gets warm and there's separation between phone and headunit. If you're not married to apple, wouldn't be opposed to having an Android headunit, and have hotspot via your phone you could do the same. The unit I got came from China and is offered in 7", 9" and 10.1". I went with the 10.1" (it's awesome) for $100, and you can find it by searching eBay or (cheaper longer wait) AliExpress as the dimension you want and "Android radio".

CarPlay doesn’t show texts or images in texts as that encourages something that is illegal in at least most of the USA. So his nude texts are safe. It reads them back to you. I don’t know what to even say that you think watching Netflix while driving is a good idea.
This device doesn’t work any different from wired form in my experience. Not any lag issues in comparison. Connection issues are rare. Phone doesn’t get hot for me.
