Looking for specs on what kind of cable I need to bury in order to get Cox internet at my house. They want to charge me $700 and I just dont want to spend that right now... I am pretty DIY.

I've read RG6 for the long line (400 ft). Can RG6 work for different wall connections?

TIA

Just make sure that they will still come out for service and not charge you if you run the cable yourself.

RG6 can also be buried, just be careful not to nic the cable when you put it in.

Dude, you might wanna do some more info gathering before you spend a bunch of money. I used to work in Sales for Suddenlink and they wouldn’t let the techs run ANY cable if it was longer than 200 ft. I actually texted a friend who is a tech and he said,
“400ft no way... not even RG11 would carry enough signal for it to be within spec limits... he can try but signal would suck.” So there you go. Also, the RG11 is newer than RG6 and a lot of times they will end up replacing any RG6 cable with the RG11.

So, the $700 may involve them setting up another pedestal too or maybe something that is used as a junction. I would ask if the $700 involves anything other than the 400 ft of cable.

Good luck!

Either way you do it make sure you use conduit or direct burial coax. You may also need an bidirectional amp in the line somewhere. They may also require the coax with the ground wire, but just about all the direct burial we bought had the ground wire.

Also, you are probably not getting it done for much less unless you have a trencher. By the time you rent one and tear up your land you will be close to the price. I’d bet included in the 700 is them using a boring machine.

They could be running fiber to whatever pedestal they put on your property too and using a media converter on the coax to your house.

I’d pay the 700, bc then it’s theirs to maintain / upgrade down the road.

400ft is definitely too long for the RG6, and possibly RG11. In this case, probably worth it to just pay the man as they'll probably never support it otherwise.

Appreciate all the responses. Alot of good feedback. Cox wants to go over head on the utility lines which will add 7 weeks to the wait. I also dont want to spend a bunch of money on cable and it not work. I have all equipment necessary to bury.

Ill think it over some more. Appreciate it.

RG6 is fine for 400'. RG11 can do a longer distance. Just be sure to purchae quad shielded RG6 and use direct burial for outside runs.

You are looking at 25 dB loss at 400 ft at 1 gig the Rg11 is not much better
