Any benefit to matching brands (TV/Soundbar)?

Just purchased the XR75X90CJ Sony TV from Costco. Absolutely love it. Have an older LG sounder with only optical output, so it lacks to ability to sync with TV remote. I would like to upgrade to a soundbar with HDMI ARC, but don't necessarily love the Sony options. Assuming any brand I choose is ARC enabled, any reason to be brand specific?

and if anyone has a reco on sub $300 soundbar for a living room, I'll take it

I think if the TV and soundbar both have HDMI ARC it should be enough. Mine are both the same and when I plugged it in it just detected and configured it for me, but I think that is ARC?

yep, that's how I understand it. Just didn't know if matching Sony had anything extra that I would be missing, but it doesn't sound like it

There are some occasional conflicts, but it’s usually fine. Try it and test it. If it works, great. If not, return it and try again.

If you only want to spend $300 or less on a sound bar then just stick with your Sony X90J internal speakers. They are nice. Just as good or better than a cheap sound bar.

A sound bar is not going to give you great sound until you commit to $1K or even a lot more. Also better off with separate speakers. There is a reason why home entertainment systems still rule the sound world.

Minimalists who don’t want anything showing in the room must be prepared to sacrifice great, immersive sound until they pony up big bucks for a premium sound bar.

The alternatives are good in-wall speakers from a name like Sonance or others who make traditional systems like Klipsch, B&W, Martin Logan, etc.

Premium sound is another one of those you-get-what-you-pay-for items. And a $300 sound bar ain’t it.

While I certainly won't argue with you about "premium" sound, and I don't have personal experience with the internal X90J speakers, every decent soundbar I've ever heard is better than every set of internal TV speakers I've ever heard.

I own this, and it beats the absolute brakes off of my internals: LINK
