I have the home pod. I tricked it out with a male indian (dot not feather) voice and it gets after it.

Daughter has an echo show with the large screen. We have the smaller version in the kitchen. Started playing sleep sounds in the middle of the afternoon when no one was in there but me and I hadn’t said anything. Also started playing a news story, one of those that pops up on the home screen like a headline. The wife was in there then with me and neither of us had said anything recently. We were prepping food and unloading the dishwasher. All in the last couple of days.

Not really, they have settings to "push to listen" vs "okay google". It's similar to a fire stick remote where you push to talk with that setting.

My kids got the Marvel one and after about a week they got bored of the games, now they are having a blast with it.
