Air pod pro replacement

Our dog chewed up one of my son’s brand new air pod pro. I see a replacement is ~$90. I was wondering if he could add the apple care and then get $30 replacement and have coverage going forward.

You could probably find a replacement on eBay for less than AppleCare + the service fee. If you want to get AppleCare I assume you can just go to the support page and put in the serial number to buy it.
