Buying a new house that has a theater room. It is wired for 7.1 set up with back 4 speakers in the ceiling, left from and center in the wall near the screen and a woofer to stand alone in the corner. Must work with a control4 system. Any good recommendations for a decent speaker set for under $800 if possible and a receiver under $500?

Thanks!

7 quality speakers and a quality subwoofer for $800 is a tall order. You didn’t mention the dimensions of the room which is a critical piece of information.

Smaller room - 15x18

Maybe $1000 for 7 speakers...without SUB...I can budget for that separately.

Do you know which receiver was in there before or do you have a C4 integrator you are going to use ?

I don't know which receiver they previous owner had...I can ask them. As far as C4 is concerned I have no idea. I have a C4 guy coming out next Tuesday to look everything over but wanted to install the speakers myself.

Know that C4 will run you about $100/hour for programming..whatever receiver you decide to use, the C4 will have to be programmed for it, and can only be done by a C4 programmer/tech.

What are the position of the ceiling speakers? I would lean toward Dolby Atmos 5.2.1

I would look at Denon or Yamaha receivers.

This is a serious 5.1 within your budget. I imagine you could get a 7.1 staying with the Sam families of receiver and speakers.

You can also upgrade the mains to the Dayton t652 ($140) or t652 Air ($200) if you want towers instead of bookshelf LR channels.

How many speakers do you actually need? 3 + subwoofer because there are already 4? And do you need in wall speakers or freestanding?

I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for.

ETA: if you're looking for 7 speakers plus a subwoofer for $800 you're only going to be able to get really shitty speakers.
