6 SATA data ports on motherboard, zero SATA power ports from motherboard

First of all, who needs 6.

But if you do, why would the sata power ports be completely absent?

Because they come from the PSU.
And six because people like making redundant storage arrays and consumer chips don’t have enough PCIe lanes to add a bunch of NVMe. They max out at 1x NVMe plus 1x GPU for the most part until they drop speed (x20).

Because 4 isn't enough and there are few with 12 or more on the mainboard.
Having to add an HBA consumes a PCIe slot that might be better used for other things.
