Namely, do you stick with Orozco at RB or give Birnbaum a shot there?

Also, I think it's safe to say that after that change, the other 10 will remain the same, but assuming we get Ecuador, I really hope we're in a spot to sub on Nagbe and/or Pulisic. When those two came on in the friendly in Dallas, they made those Ecuadorans look like fools.

I am thinking Cameron at RB and Birnbaum at CB.

Possible to move Cameron to RB but I wouldn't touch the CB pairing.

I'd play Orozco at RB and not change anything else.

It may actually be a blessing in disguise as Yedlin really hasn't been too impressive defensively.

I don't want to frick with our Cam/Brooks CB pairing.

This. They've been lights out IMO this tournament.

I am hesitant as well as I am a believer in pairings. However, I have no respect for Orozco as a player.

I mean the guy (along with Brek Shea and Terrance Boyd's dirty arse backheel) won us our first game ever on Mexican soil. It's hard for me to hate him.

But yeah, I'd rather not rely on him defensively at all, I mean he's hardly even played for Tijuana over the last two years, right?

Another option is moving Fabs from left to right and slotting in Castillo.

He's had more appearances for the US in 2016 than he has had for Tijuana.

This is an honest question, how many times has he played on the right? Is he remotely comfortable there?

Did you watch the World Cup?

yes, but that was also four games of like 60 in his career for the USMNT.

He never plays on the right for Monchengladbach, at least what I've seen.

ETA: I remember when I thought Greg Garza was the next coming at fullback for us.

He has played both RB and RM for both Hoffenheum and Gladbach. He's naturally right footed.

Ah okay. Thanks for the clarification. I don't watch a ton of Bundesliga lol.

Here is my reasoning: first, I do not care for Orozco. Birnbaum, while capable of playing at RB, is a natural CB and has played over 90% of his career minutes at CB. He is a much better CB than a RB. Cameron played as much at RB and DM as he did at CB for Stoke this past season. Cameron has significant experience at RB. He is a much better RB than Birnbaum. So while I hate to break the pairing of Brooks and Cameron at CB, I think Cameron at RB and Birnbaum at CB gives us the best available players at their best positions on the pitch for this specific match. Birnbaum also is dangerous on set pieces and offers that aspect over Orozco as well.

All of this being said, the circumstances that the USMNT finds itself in is precisely why you bring Lichaj on this team.

Meh... that's been the one good thing that Orozco has been good at it during his USMNT career.

The more that I think about it, I think our best bet is to bring in Castillo at LB.

So you are saying Castillo at LB and Johnson at RB? I am assuming Pulisic for Johnson?

I'm sorry. I am utterly bamboozled right now. I had in my mind that Johnson was playing LM even though I know he was at LB.
