the part that i dislike is groups of 3 teams with 2 teams advancing to knockouts.

it just won't be the same grind to get out of your group


also it encourages playing more conservatively.

if you draw both games you are likely to advance

True but as a US fan, a little less stress in the group stage will be welcomed
