he'd be a pretty huge gamble for a team that needs more of a sure thing at this point.

We've had a pretty great record with gambles so far. Just playing devil's advocate, not making an argument to sign him.

see that's the thing, i don't think he has WC potential. and i think that is why he hasn't gone to a bigger club yet. i watched quite a bit of him at Rennes and with the French NT when he was heavily linked to us. his positioning was suspect, his passing range wasn't WC, and he certainly wasn't capable of contributing offensively.

Utd don't necessarily have a place for him either. IMO

In their midfield? They don't have creators unless you count Rooney. Mata would instantly be their best play maker. Doesn't matter, he won't go there.

How is he at covering space on the pitch? In my opinion our number 1 weakness is a lack of mobility by the DM. Lucas was quick and lively before his injury, but now he's lost so much pace.

Moyes would be at a loss for what to do with a technical player.

think Alex Song in his last year or two at arsenal, but less skilled and maybe slightly more physical talent.

hypothetically, he could cover space very well. in practice, something was lost.

Fellaini is his idea of a "technical player."

Not to discount FOOBUD, but from what I understand from some people that have watched him in France and Russia, is that he has all the tools for the role... positioning, passing range and the ability to play B2B if needed.. They have his talents rated in the tier below a Busquets or Martinez...

The only reason he hasnt been snapped up is his off field issue, which supposedly he has worked through, but he is ready to get out of Russia and wants a move to the EPL...

Again, I have faith in BR if its the latter... Even if he doesnt end up being WC, I would think he is at worst a good DM, better than what we have... For the money being asked, its not a huge risk IMO

i'd say he's a couple of tiers below that for sure. i'm no scout or expert though. i will say, people have been saying a lot about M'Vila's talent and how he's turned things around the last couple of years. to me, and this means way more than any personal opinion from a couple of years ago watching him, the fact that he's been linked to big clubs since 2010 and hasn't gone anywhere but Russia, despite the fact his price tag was in the 8m range at one point, speaks volumes.

like i said earlier, crazy, but talented players get all sorts of chances. its a calculated risk with them, but somebody always takes it. if no one has taken a risk on him in the 8-10m pound range, that speaks really negatively of some combination of his personal issues and/or his talent level.

another piece of strong circumstantial evidence, Arsene Wenger, who loves French players, undervalued talents, and rehabbing problem children, dropped his interest in M'Vila like the plague when we were desperate for anyone in midfield.

M'Vila is a tidy enough player who looks the part, but rarely ever plays it. He's pretty typical of the French DM, strong, decent but not spectacular on the ball, but he's a bit of a head case. He's a poor man's Makelele. Might be worth a punt but I don't trust he has the mentality to succeed. Literally everyone has passed on him, time and again.

A Frenchmen who I think is about to explode is Gregory Sertic of Bordeaux. A good CM who might make Croatia's WC team (He's of Croat descent) which I would be impressive.

Napoli signed Jorginho from Verona, which I think is going to be a good move for them long term.

Also I can't see Ivan Rakitic staying at Sevilla past this season. He can play any role in central midfield, can pass, can score, and is great in dead ball situations. He should be worth at least 15m, as he's about to enter the last year of his deal after the summer.

I wouldn't mind him at Arsenal, though he's not the pivot player that we need to replace Arteta and Flamini long term. Neither are Ramsey or Wilshere to be fair. We will have to buy for the position soon, unless we think Zelalem can play there.
