Russia is fricking good.

Spain, Germany, and Netherlands are all in the top tier. I wouldn't be surprised if any of them win. I think France is going to be make a significant run as well.

How? (honest question) I assume their "best player" is Arshavin, as they chose him for their poster.. but that could be just that he's the most well known?

But my point is if that's their best.. wtf

Russia, Denmark and Croatia are all really good squads.

Russia has a good chance to make a run. Croatia and Denmark got put in really tough groups. Both have the ability to upset the giants though. I think 2 of those 3 make it past the groups.

Unfortunatley I can't bet against Spain though they are the last team I want to see win it.

I may be a new poster, but I am not a closet fan by any stretch of the imagination. I just recently found this board is all.

Torres, Ramos, Alemania and Países Bajos (yes, in that order) do make me worry about whether or not Spain will revalidate it's title.

Word seems to be that Modric will play but is nursing injuries?
I had them in mind as a possible sleeper to get of out the group (especially if Italy and Spain draw coupled with Ireland's bunkering resulting in another draw for either of those 2 as well) and then pull an upset or two.

But, if Modric isn't 100% I don't like their chances at all. In fact, without him I'd pick them to finish last in their group.

If Ireland gets a bit of luck with Spain and Italy missing the limited chances they'll get, they could be the huge surprise to come out of that group. Maybe without ever having a player cross mid pitch.

I think Denmark are very unfortunate with their group, I'm excited to see Erickson play against some world class opponents.
Croatia are an interesting team, but I don't see them winning the whole thing.

France should be fun to watch, and will be a difficult out for anyone.

But if the Dutch go back to their roots and play total football, instead of sending De Jong out to literally destroy the competition, they will do very well and win IMO.

Tis possible. I've got the sneaky suspicion that either Ramos or Piqué will have an untimely and costly mistake.

I think Italy will be the euro version of France at the 2010 WC. I don't foresee a mutiny, but their team seems to be in disarray. I like Ireland to come out along Spain.
The match fixing is a good omen for them though

He's captain, no way he's held out. The dark side is strong with them both though.

I'd love to see strooman and van der vaart in the holding roles. And Elia on the wing instead of kuyt or affellay.

I think Spain should get through easily but when Xavi and Iniesta see how far Ireland's packed into the area they'll be day dreaming of all the wide open spaces Chelsea provided.

I'm interested to see Spain's lineup. The juggling of so many attacking players that seem to want to occupy the same area (Iniesta, Silva, Mata, Cazorla etc), and I'm being serious, seems an actual problem for Del Bosque.

Italy has a lot less talent than Spain but I think it's been an issue for the Azzurri as well regarding Pirlo, De Rossi and Montolivo. Their talent leaves it almost impossible to exclude them but coupling lesser players with Pirlo has sometimes clicked better.

It is, no doubt.

I am more worried about Llorente not being fit enough. I am not comfortable with Negredo or Torres.

I haven't kept up with the Dutch friendlies lately but apparently they've been going with the two destroyers instead of Van Bommell and Strootman (what zonalmarking's Dutch preview said). I kind of get it, they don't have great center backs and so they want the extra cover.

I'm interested to see what Germany's back four is going to look like. Again according to ZM (I was bored) it might be Badstuber (almost assuredly starting) and Mertesacker, since Hummells hasn't been playing as well for Germany as he has for Dortmund.

I've got Spain, unfortunately. Although they are more vulnerable. I don't think its a matter of their time has passed, their roster is still ridiculous, but the striker situation isn't very good.
