All 18 year olds are far from being locks on a WC squad that is just less than 3 years away.

Our midfield in 2014 featured Brad Davis (definitely done and sucks), Alejandro Bedoya, Kyle Beckerman (probably done), Jermaine Jones (definitely done as a MF), and Graham Zusi, and you think an 18 year old that is viewed as the best in one of the top systems in the world isn't a lock to break into the squad? He'll be 21 by the time the WC rolls around BTW.

Zelalem is a CM, so you really can't compare him to Davis and Zusi. He also isn't a DM so you can't compare him to Beckerman. Bradley will probably still be around and Bedoya could still be around as well. Zelalem may be battling Hyndman for a roster spot.

The point was to show that the existing pool of MFs is currently old, very fluid, and not very talented at all. And of course Bradley will still be around.

Well, you don't have to be to add 3 to 18. But saying he's 18 skews the picture, which is why you said it. He's more advanced than Green was when he was 18, and there's also no way that JK didn't use 2018 as part of his sales pitch when he recruited him.

I said he was 18 because no one knows what will happen between now and 2018. He could stagnate and never pan out. You also don't know if another player comes out of nowhere between now and then. I'm not saying anyone is a lock at this point.

He was also trying to get Green to commit to us. Zelalem has already committed to us.

Well this whole thread is speculative, so we could use the "they might not pan out, they are young" argument for every player. But I think that defeats the purpose. I agree that Zelalem has a very good chance of being there.

Matt Miazga is already one of the best defenders in our pool.
Too bad Timmy Chandler, John Brooks, Ventura Alvarado and Michael Orozco are such elite defenders that Klinsmann can't even spare a though for Miazga.

Decent chance. I'd put Hyndman at 70% and Zelalem at 60%, assuming each continues development. Hyndman is already a squad player at Fulham. Zelalem will get some good time at Rangers, but I'm not sure he ever makes Arsenal's first team. That Midfield is stacked.
Carter-Vickers/Miazga. 40%. We have quite a few young CB's in the pool. But these guys have formed a nice pairing...wouldn't be surprised to see them starting throughout Olympic qualifying. If they perform well, bump 10%, if they play well in olympics bump another 10%.
Rubin. 65%. Strikers are so flavor of the month that it is difficult to predict. But, he is starting in Europe, and that means everything to JK.
