Well what extenuating circumstances keep him in KC? He has about four years left to get paid and that's what he should do. Did the KC management promise him a better contract? Nsupposedly he's making only 200k. Again if Omar is making 1.5 there is no way Besler should be making any less. Or Cameron for that matter, who is probably earning less than he should at Stoke.

Right now, he's a shorter, younger, (marginally) blacker Brek Shea, with a (marginally) better haircut.
I particularly enjoyed the poster yesterday who implied that Yedlin could defend at the international level. His defending (right now) makes 2010 Jonathan Bornstein look like Cannavaro.

He's certainly not there yet, and I agree he should stay in Seattle, but he's a lot better than Brek Shea.

I haven't watched Yedlin play very much. Is he poor positionally or is he a terrible 1 v 1 defender?

He's from KC. It's home, I just think he likes it there. Nothing more, nothing less. I do hope he's able to turn this WC performance (and really, his MLS performance for the past few years, too) into a substantial raise.

From what I have seen, I would say both.
He gets caught upfield because he loves to go forward because he can and does it well. At least he has the speed to make up ground.
It is why I could have considered Yedlin in the midfield, not in the defense during a discussion yesterday about the optimal 23. He may listed as a RB, but he will do nothing other than sub in for Bedoya or Zusi.

He has been known to bomb down the flanks and never recover to actually defend

I don't understand this line of reasoning. He's stupid if he's going to willingly leave money on the table. If KC can match every offer, good, but if after this WC he gets a good offer from a bigger European club, he should take it, since in addition to his wage he'll get a portion of the transfer fee as well.

It's a fair point, and one that aligns with Klinsmanns. Luckily both can be improved significantly with work. If he wants to be a wide midfielder though, that's not a bad gig. He will still need work on using something other than his speed to create separation.

What I should add about Besler is this. If he considers KC home, that's good, but it will in all probability always be there. He has about four more years at the top level, and on top of that he's a good defender who can actually play a forward pass. He needs to maximize his earning potential. He can always come back to KC in his 30's.

Maybe he will now. Maybe a slight increase in pay to go overseas to play for a Championship/lower-level EPL wasn't worth leaving home, but a much better offer from a more prestigious club who have raised their eyebrows from his WC play will do the trick.

I agree with all of this.
I guess we all assume (myself included) the dream of every good American soccer player is to one day play somewhere in Europe. Perhaps we could start seeing an evolution where the good young Americans spend most of their careers in the MLS as the league strengthens. But it's not there yet and I would love to see Besler really challenge himself in Europe. He's proven this WC that he is capable of performing well against quality players.

cant remember who it was against, but there was a sounders game just before camp where yedlin looked completely out of his depth....in the MLS.
that said, he has lots of potential, seems to have a stellar attitude, and is getting lots of first team minutes. gotta think he'll be a usmnt regular next cycle, and perhaps attract some interest then.

If he even gets a mid level team with a average offer, between £10,000 to £25,000 a week, then he can go back and ask KC to match the offer, and see what happens. I don't know SKC's cap and DP situation, but if he gets the offer, he should probably take it.

SKC currently has 1 DP, Claudio Bieler. They can afford at least 1 more DP, as well.
Besler has had offers to go to Europe in the past and has stated that he wants to play in England sometime, but hasn't made the move yet. I can't fault him for not going somewhere else, KC is a great organization and it is home for him, and apparently he felt that it was not a big enough raise + improvement in club to merit leaving MLS. But now, surely even bigger clubs have been looking at him and I could see him leaving.
Whichever he decides, KC will support him and if he leaves for Europe then all of us here will welcome him back to KC with open arms both in his career and outside of it. Hell, even Kei Kamara has spent a lot of time in KC after leaving (though his fiancé worked for SKC in the past) and the fans here have supported him as well.
