Should have bought Pulisic instead
I mean the Coutinho buy was purely driven by “ooo shiny toy” as opposed to how much it was needed. He’s a similar style player as Messi, just on the left and obviously not to his level

Dembele was always gonna be overpaying based on his history of injuries plus you could argue his motivation. Not to mention this was the time they had no idea what direction they were going so they didn’t really know what they needed, they just thought they needed a winger.

And then their wage structure blew those deals as well as Griezman wayyyyy out of proportion. Not to mention I’m not sure how they thought he was going to fit in.

Barca has been the best, pure example of a 10 year old playing FIFA. No plan and no direction

They should absolutely never sell Pedri. He's the only remaining midfield link player they have. The absence of a midfielder who could link play effectively caused Messi to drop deeper, and basically led to him performing both playmaking and scoring, which is why I have to regard him as the best of all time. Still, if he had more effective link players getting him the ball, Barca would not likely be in this position. They bought so poorly it is honestly amazing. Messi bailed them out from their mistakes in a massive way.

They should have bought another winger in the mold of Pedro. A willing off-the-ball runner who would just run off his markers all day, rarely ask for the ball to feet, and would defend.

Ego.

They never thought they'd lose Neymar and rushed to sign galatcticos.

No way they would have settled for a Pedro-level player.

At least when Real was messing up transfers like Robben, Sneijder, etc they could still sell them and recoup most of everything.

They are on the verge though with that terrible and inexplicable Hazard signing. I pretty much hung up my Real fandom after that.

The part I'm confused about is why would Messi want to come back to a team that will be absolutely decimated to be able to square his contract. Not that they were good last season, but they can't afford to bring anybody else in.

Aren't Barca and Atleti doing the Saúl/Griezmann swap?

I think this is all but dead, right now

Which makes this EVEN MORE insane.
