Even though most of you hate United, you must find this amusing at least. Wonder if the big fella got any skills...

Usain Bolt will finally get the chance to play for dream club Manchester United at Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial next month.

Ferdinand was rewarded for over a decade of service at Old Trafford with a match against Sevilla next month, and he urged David Moyes to let the world’s fastest man play

It would be terrifying to mark him. You have to figure they get one perfect through ball to him.

Sounds like he might play in the back... ??? Unless when the article said "alongside Rio" they didnt mean literally. I would play through balls and also crosses and let him go up and get. Isnt he like 6'6 or something?

meh, he doesn´t come out of the blocks well, does he?

He´s frick all fast. Quick, not so much.

Also, I´d imagine like 99.50% of English speaking country citizens, he´s pretty poor on the ball.

We shall see!

this is what I was thinking. Yeah, he´s at least 6´5, probably more, like you say.

Bolt could be sitting on his arse and torch anyone.

The not coming out of the blocks is a bit of a myth anyway. He is fine comparatively to world class sprinters who also practice getting out of the blocks. People just think his acceleration "sucks" because it takes longer to reach his top speed. That is due to the fact that Bolt has the highest top speed in the world. There is more velocity for him to reach to.

The only guys that have an advantage on Bolt acceleration wise are short sprinters in both height and distance. Former 60 meter indoor champion is a perfect example. Plus, Bolt would not be far behind.

Furthermore, Bolt is not coming out of blocks in a match. His starting speed without blocks is exceptional because he practices it more than anyone else (outside of other sprinters).

Bolt is also not the right type of runner to dominate in soccer (if he were good at soccer) because he does not have the endurance. A 1500 meter or 5k runner is far more adept to soccer's conditioning.

he wont be crouched over in racing blocks. He'll be running laterally waiting for the pass and will be at most players' top speed when he turns up field to run onto the ball. It would be fun to watch !!

I don´t see him beating say, a Kun Agüero. I just don´t see it. Without the ball, of course. With the ball, fawgett abowd at!

What?

Do you honestly believe that there are multiple soccer players that would outrun Bolt on the field sprint because he doesn't come out the blocks well?

Here is a link that has Bolt's individual 10 meter sprints totals broken down per race. no idea of the accuracy link

Bolt would obliterate anyone.

You are trolling worse than Randy right now.

A lot of those guys appear faster on the field than they actually are. Ronaldo is a glaring example of this.

If Marvell Wynne's speed can allow him to actually be paid to play soccer, I'm not betting against Usain Bolt beating any soccer player in the world.

Yeah, in general there are very few really fast players in the game. Walcott and a few others have superb speed, but nothing at the level of Bolt. I think it was in Soccernomics that the authors stated something about how fast a fast player on a soccer field is. If you were able to run faster than 7.0 m/sec, you had good speed. That rate translates to a 14 second 100 m time, which isn't a good time at all.

I can't remember the section all that clearly. It was talking about Arsenal and the transfer of Thierry Henry and using analytics to determine the effectiveness of a player. I don't have the book on me so maybe someone else can clear this up.

It has to be with a ball. 7m/s is slow as frick for a sprint. I can run 400 meters at that pace, and I suck dick at sprints (I am a distance runner).

methinks you are.

we´re talking about football. a ten, twelve yard sprint maybe.

you´re obviously referring to 30 plus yards.

I´m not even referring to running with possession, BTW.
