quote:Belgium is better and dominated us last night, but every single goal was a pretty inexcusable, self inflicted wound. The first was a pretty standard opportunity to clear that we missed and then 3 guys standing and watching a cross right in front of the goal. The second, two defenders in position get beat to a header right in front of the goal. The third and fourth were just total embarrassments of poor play.
Belgium is a top 10 ranked team in the world. They're #9. US is ranked 17th. We were the underdogs tonight, not them.
That’s really the more deflating part. Belgium, while a quality opponent, is still a step or at least half step below Spain, France, Argentina, Netherlands, etc.
We are confidently a top 15-20 team, but still miles away from a top 10 team.

The gap in ability between our team and Belgium is not that large. The mental gap last night though was...woof. We just locked up, played extremely tight (hard direct passes, difficulty settling the ball) and very hesitant on defense. Guys let the stage and the opportunity go to their heads and they cracked pretty badly.
