U-17 win montaigu tournament

Question here...do other countries generally play their best available talent in U17 and U20 sides, or do a lot of kids stay at their academies? I ask because both of our baby yank squads have had success in tournaments like this recently against powerhouses of the sport...and the rhetoric by a few around here lately would have me believe that we'll never sniff that level.

we've done well at these age groups for a long while now. the issue with US players is our "finishing school" setup sucks compared to europe. our athleticism/size matters a lot more at this stage b/c super technical ability isn't there yet (essentially across the board)
our guys just rarely ever take that next step b/c they're not finished in technical leagues. hell even if they are, when they come home to MLS for a payday, they lose it. look at bradley and jozy, who have both completely regressed since they came home. 2016 bradley is nothing like Roma bradley

Hmm..so next time someone claims that *insert soccer giant* just has a superior youth system than the US, I can call bullshite? That's what I'm trying to figure. These kids are all the same age, same period in their development through their countries youth system, and the Americans are as good or better.
Is the reality just that our guys stop progressing because they aren't at a European side by their 20th birthday, refining their technical abilities and understanding of the game? Because it looks like we're on a level playing field with everyone else when these kids are mid-late teens

well they can afford a less tactical game with our gap in athleticism. that tactical foundation pays off in the long run when the athleticism becomes less of an advantage. a lot of our guys can't "finish" b/c of this lack of foundation

That's clearly changing though, as more technical players are sprouting up in our pool. That's why the whole America will always be mediocre argument doesn't make any sense to me. We just started taking this mildly seriously whereas the rest of the world puts the sport far and away at the forefront, and we're already producing a few players with the technical ability to rival most at their age around the globe.

Lots of good USA youth players go to college. Lots of good European youth players go to clubs B-sides with more depth in competition across the board

Well there was a big club U17 tournament going on this past week too.

Reading this article we apparently won this same tournament in 92
