I dunno, I still like the appeal to authority argument that if our scouts, Roma's scouts, and rumored Inter/Milan scouts liked him, then he has to have great potential. I also like the fact that he's comfortable playing on both sides of the field, and can be used in the midfield or up higher as a supporting striker.
Also, if we don't get 40 mill or above for Cesc then we really missed out on a chance to cash in huge like other clubs have done with their super stars.

Difference is that Fabregas couldn't go on the open market. There is literally one club for him, which drives his price down tremendously. But we'll make a profit of at least £35 million, which should give Wenger a raging boner for a couple of years.

we need to float some press releases that City is a big contender in the hunt. that will instantly throw 10-15 to his buy-out

He might be a versatile player, but no way he's worth £10 million pound asking price. We might as well try to buy Erik Lamela who's also a winger, has size, is younger, and has already been capped by the ANT. If we were getting Alvarez on a free, that's a completely different story.

Read Blue Moon forums sometime. There have been multiple threads often going 30 pages saying that Fabregas is going to City for £60 million. On the open market, Fabregas gets at least £50 million. I'd be happy with £40 mil. since he's that important to our team.

It seems Fabregas would just be a luxury buy for Barca...they already have Xavi's replacement...Thiago

Will be interesting to see where Alvarez ends up. Sabatini said in an interview this morning that Roma had offered 8M Euro and that's the ceiling as he sees it. Seems Sabatini was already trying to get Alvarez to Palermo as a possible replacement for Pastore for a while.
Not sure Velez will get a king's ransom if their strategy is only to play big spenders like Arsenal, Roma and Palermo against one another.

Fabregas is better than Thiago right now. Fab can play much closer to goal, so we'll see who he replaces. My thinking is that Fab will be the first off the bench if Xavi or Iniesta need a breather while Thiago and Fab start games against lesser teams. Pep talked about converting Fab back into a DM, in pretty much an exact copy of Pep, but I don't think that will get the best out of Fab's skills closer to goal.

Honestly I'm surprised they are considering paying that much at the moment. I wouldn't offer anything more than 5M Euro, because the player was only an intermittent starter for this Velez side, and anything more is too big of a risk for that price.

I wouldn't mind getting Thiago along with some cash for Fab, but that's not going to happy.
Though if I had to pick a midfielder from the Euro U21 Final to sign, it'd be Xherdan Shaqiri. Top name, top talent.

I could go for Shaqiri.
Wenger needs to Souleymane Coulibaly, the Ivorian player who's tearing up the U-17 WC.

Rumors abound that ManU may make a very strong bid for Thiago.

Is Charlie Adam actually going to sign or not?

Looks like maybe today or perhaps tomorrow. It also seems that Mierles could on the way out. I don't get that move at all.

Money talks.
With the cash they spent on Henderson, and Downing looking like he will join, I don't know how much Raul would even play.
I think I read a rumor that he would be sold for like 15M? If so, sell him IMO. He won't be worth that much for too much longer. He had a rough end of the season.

i though Man City were the big spenders who were "killing football."

You can't be serious?
Over the past 5 years, Man Utd haven't spent 1/3 what City has spent. They spent serious $$ on Berbatov, Hargreaves, and Carrick. And all 3 combined doesn't equal the amount they received for Ronaldo.
They have several senior citizens on their team that they are trying to replace in this window. Hence them actually spending solid $$.
Really nowhere relatively close to City's spending.

wait until the end of the window, and we'll compare the two. It's already in works on my end

You do realize that City is literally linked with every single highly rated player in Europe?
They will surely splurge on a couple. Nobody can outbid them.
