The Liverpool thread has a rumor of a 5mm offer that Liverpool has made for Clichy. Is that a joke?

Clichy won't sign a new contract, and is surely leaving, so I'm not surprised they bid. But I highly doubt we'll sell to rivals, and if we do, it will be for a hell of a lot more money.

Exactly. No way we take that insult of an offer.

God I hope some how we can redeem something this summer. Three key players likely to leave with other fringe players almost assuredly gone. We might see a shite ton of new faces.

That rumor is floating around RAWK right now. Surely the 5M is just an opening offer and if Arsenal does sell it would be for more. How much do you think he will go for though given his contract situation?

I'd say around 12mm. If English 20mm.

Good question. 8M for non-English teams, upwards of 10M for English teams. The few times Wenger's sold players to other English teams (Kolo and Ade come to mind) he either thought they were on the decline (Kolo) or they were crazy (Ade). And in both cases, the players were bought for lots of money, much more than they should have been valued.

With Clichy, it's clear there's nothing wrong with him in terms of his locker room demeanor and he's yet to hit the prime of his career, which makes me think that Wenger will be very reluctant to sell him to another English team. He's a good LB, in the top five in the PL, but there's been something "off" about him since 08. I think upwards of 10M will make him think about it.

It's probably take what you can get this year, or he walks on a Bosman next summer...

I guess I'd take him, but would not be overly excited either...

He makes your squad better overnight.

He's as good a LB on his day as there is. Wenger molded him and Ashley Cole, so there's pedigree there. Much better than pretty much any alternative. He leaves something to be desired in the final third because he isn't a naturally left footed player. If he's free to roam laterally he can be really dangerous attacking wise, and he has the recovery pace to keep up with wingers. He'd be a great buy considering your recent troubles at LB. He also was discovered by Comolli, so there's that.

Inter and Bayern were interested in him, and we're much more likely to sell him to them than to an English team. That said, we'll see how it plays out.

So Gibbs steps in, or do we try and buy someone who isn't always dinged up?

His pace and tracking ability make up for it.

Gibbs can be a real talent, and we also have Botelho who should get a work permit. We might go after Baines, which I wouldn't be in favor of. Might go after Cissokho or someone.

Price? He was easily the best LB in the EPL last season. I would imagine Everton would demand a pretty penny. Like in the area of 20mm-25mm.

Fair enough, though he can cross decently.

Yep. At 20mm, we wouldn't even look at him. We'd go somewhere and get someone like Nacho Monreal, Benoit Tremoulinas or equally as obscure. If Clichy does leave, I'd love to go after Jeremy Mathieu of Valencia. 6'3, good speed and positional awareness, and tremendously underrated. If Cesc, Nasri, and Clichy leave, we could find all their replacements in (Banega, Mata, and Mathieu) at Valencia.

Love the name. Spanish based players would have an easy transition to our style. They might hate the weather, but it could be a really smooth transition.
